Have you ever had a hobby nearly your whole life? A hobby that you should have made into a career long ago but instead took the more traditional route to please the parents and secure a regular paycheck? For as long as I can remember I was engrossed into photography. I had the instant Polaroid camera and would carefully catalog the family and pet photos. Then I graduated to the point and shoot, the Kodak Brownie, the manual film SLR, the Yashica Twin Reflex, and finally my first digital camera - a clunky 2 MP Fuji with a big red button. Basically anytime my birthday rolled around, I'd receive something camera-related.
Maybe I should have followed my passion years ago, but I feel my experience in teaching, community non-profits and exercise physiology have shaped me and provided me a strong skill set: working with all ages and personalities, leadership, professionalism, staying cool in chaos, and patience. Outside of work I could be found in photography classes or in the print lab. Wrap all this up and couple it with my innate people personality and it makes portrait photography a natural transition.
I've fallen in love with capturing people's personalities and souls through my lens. I get incredibly excited playing with kids - allowing their personalities to shine - and I cry at every wedding. I am moved when I witness motherly love or the love between a newly engaged couple. I am a sucker for relationships basically and I'd be elated to capture yours.
"And most important,
HAVE THE COURAGE TO FOLLOW YOUR HEART AND INTUITION.
They somehow already
know what you truly want to become.
EVERYTHING ELSE IS SECONDARY."
- Steve Jobs
